Šio projekto metu gaudome pavienius paprastuosius uodus (Culex pipiens). Juose ieškosime naujų RNR virusų, siekdami geriau suprasti virusų įvairovę, bei (tikimės) suteikti jiems baltiškus pavadinimus.
Ką daryti toliau?
Palikite spąstus kur juos radote, neužilgo ateisime juos pasiimti. Jei spąstus aptinkate ne pirmą kartą praėjus keletui ar daugiau dienų, gali būti, kad juos pametėme. Susisiekite su mumis tel.nr. +370 656 36243 arba el. paštu gytis.dudas@gmc.vu.lt
What did you find?
You found mosquito traps belonging to the Vilnius University (VU) Life Sciences Center (GMC).
How do they work?
Mosquitoes are attracted by carbon dioxide (CO2) released by animals, ultraviolet light, skin scent, and warmth. The traps usually imitate one or more of these cues, and when mosquitoes fly closer, an air current catches them and pulls them into a bag, where we will collect them later.
What are we studying?
In this project, we are capturing individual common house mosquitoes (Culex pipiens). We will look for new RNA viruses in them to better understand viral diversity and (hopefully) give them Baltic names.
What should you do next?
Leave the traps where you found them; we will come to pick them up shortly. If you find the traps again after several days or more, it’s possible we lost them. Please contact us at +370 656 36243 or by email at gytis.dudas@gmc.vu.lt.
